All processes are done with care and respect of the placenta within a sanitized environment. After Birth adheres to strict guidelines and follows proper food safety standards.
The purpose of ingestion of the placenta is to reintroduce beneficial hormones, proteins, and other nutrients to the body following labour and birth to help restore physical and emotional balance.
Preparations are completed using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Method. The placenta is drained of blood, steamed with water, thinly sliced, dehydrated, and ground for encapsulation. Allow for 48-72hrs.
Please acknowledge the following:
I understand that preparations are completed in a mutually agreed time. I agree to contact After Birth by text message (780-267-1839) when labour begins (no matter the time of day) and again once the baby is born to arrange pick-up and transport.*
I understand that significant abnormalities of the placenta may result in my doctor or midwife sending the placenta to pathology. In this instance, I may request that a portion be examined and the remainder stored until cleared for processing or discarding.*
I understand that if there is an infection in the uterus during labour, the placenta may not be able to be processed, but I will still receive my Postpartum Healing Box with added items in absence of my prepared capsules.*
I understand that IT IS possible to process my placenta after a caesarean birth.*
I understand that after birth the placenta should be placed in the provided kit or an birth site container with ice. It may remain at room temperature for 3–4 hours after birth and should then be refrigerated or kept cool.*
I will communicate to After Birth to discuss care if I am doing a lotus birth*
I understand that benefits may vary among users and while research reviews exist, Health Canada has not evaluated or approved placenta ingestion.*
I understand that After Birth's processor Milly Friedman is a certified placenta encapsulation specialist through PBI. She is not a medical professional and does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe for health related conditions. The cost of preparations reflects the preparation process, not the sale of capsules.*
I understand that placenta processing can take approximately 48–72 hours to complete.*
